Replacement arrangement for residents who are absent from Hong Kong

Holders of the old form smart identity card who are outside Hong Kong need not rush back to Hong Kong for identity card replacement. Within 30 days upon their future return to Hong Kong, they can still proceed to Registration of Persons Offices - Hong Kong Office, Kowloon Office, Kwun Tong Office and Tuen Mun Office to have their identity cards replaced.

Before their return to Hong Kong, applicants may make appointment and pre-fill the application form through the internet at www.gov.hk/icbooking or the Immigration Department Mobile Application to enjoy a faster process of registration at the relevant offices.

Upon their return to Hong Kong for replacement for new smart identity cards, they can use their existing Hong Kong identity cards (if not yet invalidated) for immigration clearance.
